A dull knife is a dangerous knife
Because it requires more pressure to cut foods a knife could easily slip and cut you.
Honing and sharpening your knife on a regular basis will keep it safe and efficient to use.
Honing straightens out the small burrs that appear on the very edge of the knife, while sharpening actually removes the fine particles from the metal blade to recreate a good edge.
A honing steel can help realign the blade to keep it in optimal cutting condition, A knife sharpener will restore the blade to like-new sharpness.
Sharpeners are available in a handheld rod, or in manual or electric versions.
I highly recommend NOT using any kind of electric sharpening tool for home use.
My preferred way is sharpening stones kit, watch video at bottom of page and check deals under video!!
Don’t wash your knives in the dishwasher.
Do wash knives and dry your knives well immediately after use.
Acids from juices and such can corrode or cause spotting.
Use knife-friendly cutting boards.
Avoid cutting boards made from glass, ceramic, metal or marble, which will dull your knife.
Wood and bamboo are both ideal cutting surfaces and my personal choice, as they will not dull the blade.
Some professionals prefer plastic, which is also gentle on blades, and has the added benefit that it can be sanitized in a dishwasher.
